What is GIARS
The Interdisciplinary Research Group in Social Networks Analysis (GIARS), accredited by the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq-Brazil), aims to build critical mass in the various methodologies that search to produce and analyze data on relational social structures, commonly known as social networks. Brings together researchers from diverse areas facing common challenges in operationalizing research problems where the basic object are structures of social interaction. To this end, national meetings and local seminars are organized for socializing international research of reference as improving analytical frameworks applied in research projects of the participants. Formative group activity, in parallel, involves training in specific techniques of social network analysis (descriptive analyzes, statistical models and use of specialized software).
Who We are
The GIARS congregate professors, researchers and graduate students of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG). Aiming to be an interdisciplinary group, is opened to the participation of researchers from diverse fields of scientific knowledge, namely humanities, exact, computational, managerial, biological and geographical, among others.
What We do
The basic line of action is the permanent seminar studies, monthly meeting, which aims to discuss the results of research participants, and other works of international impact in the domain of social network analysis. The GIARS has a standing offer for structured training in social network analys in the form of university extension activity at UFMG, offering intensive courses since introductory level to advanced. Until today, it has organized the Training Workshop on Social Network Analysis which annually happens in the month October.
